Lydia Sanderson

Throughout my time at university I had numerous placements within a range of clinical settings including schools, nurseries, clinics, hospitals and clients homes. I saw children and adults with a range of communication disorders and developed my decision making skills with regards assessment and providing therapy.

During university I sought to enhance my knowledge whenever possible through relevant voluntary opportunities. Working for Eg (Training) has enabled me to enhance my skills with children with a variety of communication needs. I have received Makaton training and use this within my practice to support communication.

In everything I do I aim to do my absolute best. I feel very privileged to be a Speech and Language Therapist and always do my best for the clients in my care.

In 2013 I moved to Sheffield to train as a Speech and Language Therapist. During university I volunteered in local schools where I helped to implement speech and language therapy programmes for children with a range of communication difficulties. I have also worked with children and young people with learning difficulties and complex needs in play schemes. My work with adults includes supporting individuals with Aphasia, Traumatic Brain Injury and Parkinson’s disease on a 1:1 basis and through support groups.

Having grown up on a dairy farm in Derbyshire, I have always loved the outdoors. I regularly go walking and rock climbing in the Peak District and enjoy going to the Lake District when I get the chance. I have a real love for horses and enjoy looking after my childhood pony Dolly who still lives on the family farm. I regularly bake and like cooking for friends and family. I spend many evenings reading cook books or cross stitching.

I am supported by many experienced therapists at Eg (Training) and regularly receive clinical supervision. I love learning and I’m always keen to develop my clinical skills. At Eg (Training) I am very fortunate to have the opportunity to regularly access a range of CPD activities. This enables me to continue to develop my knowledge and skills which influences the therapy I provide on a daily basis.
